EQ-Vitamin E is a selenium-free supplement, adapted for diets where the horse’s selenium needs are already covered. Vitamin E acts as an antioxidant and is essential for fertility, muscle function and a strong immune system. Extra vitamin E supplementation is particularly beneficial for horses during hard training, as it protects the muscles against free radicals (waste products formed during muscle work) and facilitates muscle building and recovery. As the vitamin E content of hay decreases during storage, a supplement may be necessary. In addition, an extra supplement of vitamin E is recommended when oil or other high-fat feeds are included in the diet, to prevent oxidation of the fatty acids.
